Super: The Best Little Movie of 2011
I recently wrote about the Top 10 Movies (That I had seen) of 2011. To refresh my memory on what came out this year I checked out Boxofficemojo.com’s Top 100 grossing movies. What I’ve now realized is that in doing so I have overlooked one of my favorite films that came out this year, James Gunn’s dark indie action comedy, Super! This movie is amazing. It’s what Kick-Ass...

GI Joe 2: Teaser Trailer
This looks much better than the first film. I could see this being a really cool movie franchise if they can get it closer to the original roots.
The Good:
The Rock as Roadblock works. Seems like he’s carrying the film now instead of the craptastic Duke played by that cross-eyed beefy dude. Ray Stephenson as Firefly seems wicked cool. Cobra Commander seems to have a proper helmet now....

James' Top 10 Movies of 2011 (That I have seen)
1) The Muppets
It’s time to get things started- all over again! This film savors everything you ever cared about the Muppets in a fun, nostalgic, and self-referential way that will not only make you laugh out loud, but maybe even cry a little.
2) Drive
I still think that in real life Ryan Gosling might be mildly retarded, but it totally works in his favor (again) in what I like to call a spiritual...

Playing With Girls Toys
It’s no secret I’m a toy collector. It started with vintage Transformers not long after college (when I finally had a job in my field and some disposable income). In 2008 Mattel launched Masters of the Universe: Classics, a line of re-imagined He-Man figures with modern sculpts and articulation for the adult collector crowd. I was in love! He-Man was my favorite cartoon as a kid...

Brand New Takeshi Kitano Flick!!
While I don’t think this trailer is particularly badass, I’m super excited to see the new Takeshi Kitano film. It’s been a while since he’s both directed and starred in something. If you’ve never seen a Kitano film before start with Hana-Bi (Fireworks) and Brother (also starring House MD’s Omar Epps!).

Top 10 Best Films (that I saw) in 2010
I saw a lot of movies this year. Probably more than usual now that Netflix and Bit Torrent have made seeing mediocre movies super accessible (see: Date Night). Looking at my list you can pretty much guess that I’m a male 18-35 years old. Yes, I like comic book movies-and movies directed by comic book movie directors. That doesn’t mean that’s all I watch, however. No straight comedies are on...

Detroit Lives! A Docu-Commerical Review.
Palladium Boots sent Jackass Johnny Knoxville to do some urban exploring in Detroit to find out if anything good is growing in the cracks of the decaying city.
So I watched all of this docu-commercial and have a couple of thoughts:
1) It was beautifully shot. I’m totally jealous that I couldn’t shoot “It Came From Detroit” in HD. Oh well, it was 2002 and I was lucky...

Brunch City: Homegirl Cafe
Where: Homegirl Cafe 130 Bruno Street Downtown Los Angeles
I just finished watching Allison Anders’ 1993 film about Hispanic female gang members in Echo Park, Mi Vida Loca. It was great to see what the neighborhood looked like 15+ years ago before the hipsters rolled in from Silverlake. The film is great too. It was obvious that not only did she do her homework on local gang culture, but used...

Toy Story 3 Review: Put Your Fucking Shoes On,...
So I’m going to see Toy Story 3 at The Grove in 3D the other day. I’m a big movie theater buff so I like to have the best seats possible if I can. Sometimes there’s a sweat spot a few rows back, behind the handicap area where there are no seats in front of you (just some bars). Now this can be convenient because you can put your legs up on the bars and have some nice extra leg...
Brunch City: Cafe Verona
Where: Café Verona 201 South La Brea Ave. Los Angeles
What: A quant little Italian café with vine covered outdoor seating. A perfect date spot for any Romeo or Juliet.
What to get: They specialize in egg dishes. Their frittata actually comes out looking like an egg pizza with all your favorite toppings put right on top the country-style fluffy egg crust. Make sure you opt for their sweet potato...

Lost = 1986 Transformers Movie
Jacob = Optimus Prime (Leader of the group, protector of the Matrix)
Jack = Ultra Magnus (Obvious successor, but ultimately too flawed)
Hurley = Rodimus Prime (The reluctant chosen one)
The Island = The Matrix of Leadership
Think about it!

Here is the video I edited for the band Totally Michael. It was directed by Demonbabies’ Jesus Rivera. I think it turned out really fun. It’s like a throwback 80’s/90’s summer video for the Vice generation. What do you think?

Brittany Murphy: The Ramen Girl vs. Tampopo
The Japanese take food seriously. This is the land of the Iron Chef and Kobayashi. It’s not just good enough to make food that people will enjoy, one must strive to be the best! When I think about the perfect bowl of ramen, two movies come to mind- The Juzo Itami classic Tampopo, and the straight to DVD 2008 Brittany Murphy film, The Ramen Girl.
Most Americans’ familiarity with...

According to this, AT&T 3G rocks it in LA. →
I love charts and graphs. I also have an iPhone on AT&T so this test by Gizmodo is very interesting to me. They chart 12 top cities and test out the top four carrier’s 3G download and upload speeds. Then they show you what neighborhoods they charted in. Seems in downtown LA (where I live close to) the 3G download speeds are around 2.7mb/s! I think that’s faster than my DSL at...
